Alexa, Siri, Cortana, Genny – these aren’t just chart-topping baby names, they are also familiar household names. Many use Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistants on a daily basis. They allow us to communicate hands-free to accomplish everyday tasks at home and at work like playing our favorite tunes, find our way around town, log EHS concerns, and even ask about the weather. What industries in particular are being changed by Artificial Intelligence and how is AI training powering these industries? Here’s a rundown on 3 industries impacted by AI.


Manufacturing. AI in manufacturing allows industries to drop costs and make complex decisions easier and faster than ever before. Once construction has begun, AI is also being used to manage projects and control tasks. For example, workers can input sick days, vacancies and sudden departures into a data system and it will adapt the project accordingly. AI understands that the task must be moved to another employee. AI databases are now helping to inform engineers on how specific projects should be constructed. Once a new building is finished, whether used for commercial purposes or for a new housing development, AI systems can be used inside the structure, such as an Amazon Echo. Healthcare. Artificial Intelligence has a large role in the healthcare industry, from AI-assisted robotic surgery to virtual nursing assistants. During AI-robotic surgery, robots can analyze data from pre-op medical records to guide a surgeon’s instrument during surgery, which can lead to a 21% reduction in a patient’s hospital stay. Robot-assisted surgery is considered minimally invasive, so patients won’t need to heal from large incisions. Via artificial intelligence, robots can use data from past operations to inform new surgical techniques. AI also allows the healthcare industry access to virtual nursing assistants. From interacting with patients to directing patients to the most effective care setting, virtual nursing assistants could save the healthcare industry $20 billion annually.
